Historically this has been the focus area of SEARCH. SEARCH has conducted pioneering research in this field which has contributed to shaping international policy on reproductive health of women.
Health care services
- At community level
- Home based mother care (HBMC) through trained female Arogyadoots (CHWs) provided in 39 villages of Gadchiroli district.
These services include
1) Health education during ANC and post partum.
2) Identifying high risk pregnancy and ensuring antenatal check up by obstetrician
3) Antenatal iron folic acid supplementation for minimum 6 months.
4) Screening of urine for glucose at the end of 3rd month or at the detection of
pregnancy and SOS referral
5) Screening of urine for albumin at the end of 3rd month or at the detection of
pregnancy and SOS referral.
6) Diagnosis and treatment of lower UTI during ANC and PNC.
7) BP recording during pregnancy and post partum and SOS referral.
8) Regular weight measurement during ANC and post partum.
9) Diagnosis and treatment of emesis during pregnancy.
10) Diagnosis and treatment of GERD during pregnancy.
11) Diagnosis and management of antenatal and puerperal fever.
12) Diagnosis and management of puerperal sepsis.
13) Diagnosis and management of breast engorgement.
14) Diagnosis and referral for breast abscess.
15) Diagnosis and treatment of post partum pelvic pain.
16) Diagnosis and management of vaginal/ episiotomy wound.
17) Diagnosis and referral of caesarean section wound
18) Diagnosis and management of secondary PPH.
19) Diagnosis and referral of cases of vaginal discharge ANC and PNC.
20) Detection of danger signs and referral.
21) Routine post partum administration of Vitamin A and Albendazole.
22) Post partum emotional support with regular post partum visits.
The Mobile Medical Unit provides medical services to women in their village and/or refers them to SEARCH’s Danteshwari Dawakhana (hospital) as per need. These services are provided in 48 tribal villages in Dhanora block of Gadchiroli district
Adolescent girls are provided reproductive health education through 3-4 days camps (on invitation) conducted in schools/colleges either along with boys or separately
- Health Care services for women at SEARCH’s Danteshwari Dawakhana (Hospital)
- A resident Gynaecologist provides specialist consultation to women patients. This also includes treatment for infertility as required. If necessary women patients are managed at the IPD as well or referred
- Special surgeries for women (e.g. Hysterectomy etc.) are conducted by the visiting surgeons at the Danteshwari Dawaakhana
- Deliveries are conducted at the Danteshwari Dawakhana (Except those requiring Caesarean procedure)
- Danteshwari Dawakhana is a recognised MTP centre approved by Government of Maharashtra
